Sage (Salvia Officinalis)

Salvia comes from the Latin word Salvare, meaning to cure. While sage is regarded as mainly a culinary herb, it has many medicinal benefits to offer! Ongoing research taking place in the UK provides strong support for traditional use of Sage to enhance memory. Interestingly, those who took a moderate dose of Sage, around 2.5g, proved more effective than higher doses. This is a common theme, as many studies on different herbs had the same result. The herb has a long-standing use for women during menopause, as a Swiss study reported that women dealing with hot flashes took Sage, which resulted in a 64% decrease in symptoms after 8 weeks! Sage is a great hormonal remedy, it is also used for women with irregular periods, as Sage encourages better blood flow. Sage has a long traditional use as a digestive aid, supporting stomach health and promoting better digestion and absorption. It also is great for helping with acne and relieving eczema. We include Sage in many of our facial oils and balms! Lastly, Sage is most known for its wonderful antibacterial properties. It is a classic remedy for inflammation of the mouth. Sage is the main ingredient in our Mint and Sage Mouth Rinse and Toothpowder!
